Additional The Outsiders Information

When it was first published in 1967, The Outsiders defied convention with its immediate, deeply sympathetic portrayal of Ponyboy and his struggle to find a place for himself in a difficult world. Thirty years later, it speaks to teenagers as powerfully as ever.

What Customers Say About The Outsiders:

Will Johnny die. Hinton's book, The Outsiders, really caught my attention. Suddenly, Ponyboy is faced with a couple of questions. This gang of friends is called the "Greasers." Soon, a problem escalates between the "Greasers" and the "Socs," the opposite social group. Will they go to jail for killing that Soc. I'm sure that both males and females will like this book, too.

The use of alcohol, drugs, violence, and profanity makes the book unsuitable for anyone under the age of thirteen. Overall S.E. Ponyboy and his friend, Johnny, show their heroic personalities after saving a few kids from a burning church. S.E. Basically, it's about a young protagonist, Ponyboy, and the rest of his friends. Unfortunately, Johnny gets seriously wounded in the fire.

After reading this book once, I would definitely read it again. Hinton wrote an awesome, action-packed book. Book Reviewed by: Scott N. After the death of one of the "Socs," things turn to chaos. Because it was written in the 1960's, it will catch the eyes of any historical fiction lover.

WilliamsThis book is of course by S.E. Parentless, he and his two older brothers, Darry and Soda Pop, must survive the brutality of city living with the Socs, the bullies from the wealthy.

That's they have friends like Two-Bit, Dally, and Johnny, which are also greasers.

Pony Boy believes that there are only two kinds of people, Greasers (Pony, Dally, and Soda Pop) and Socs.Of course Pony, Dally, and Soda can't hold off the rich uptight gang. I don't read much, but this is a great book and reentered me into the wonderful world of reading.

A book review by D. Hinton that she wrote when she was only 16, deals with many emotional conflicts of teens or young adults, especially with a character from the book named Pony Boy.

Pony and Johnny then find themselves in a sticky, one-way situation.

I read it many years ago and wanted to re-read it. I was very pleased with the speed in which I received this book. It was as I remembered and I thank you for sending it so quickly.

But there is a lot more to this book than the big fight towards the end of this book. You basicly have a sensitive kid whose parents are dead and his late teen brothers are forced to drop out of school to make ends meet and their group of friends who are all tough working class white teens who look out for each other and operate like a surrogate family. Just talk to a few old timers and you can also find out that things like what went on in this book were far from a rare occurence. One of their group kills one of the rich kids in self defense and two of them go on the run. Whereas Westside Story is "ethnic" and urban The Outsiders is seen from the white working class viewpoint (which is rare)in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I can't give too much more away without ruining the story but its well worth reading. Big rumbles happened quite a bit back in the day.

The whole thinng culminates in a big rumble. Although its hard not to notice minor similarities with this and Westside Story I would have to consider this Hintons best book. The Outsiders is also a great story on top of that. There are constant conflicts between them and the kids from the other side of the tracks whose families have more money.

I have been trying to have my order delivered to another address (which I would gladly pay for) but no one seems to care about my order. I just would like to get my book that I paid for. I would have given a GREAT review BUT, my order was returned to the seller. Due to this order being refused and returned I would think that the seller would take upon themselves to help any way they could to make this order reach the buyer even if the buyer has to pay for re shipment.
